Nepal’s largest Telecom NTC is using different way to minimize the bandwidth consumption. The installation of Google cache server and the cache server for Microsoft windows update helps NTC to protect the bandwidth consumption. The Linux user in Nepal are growing. While I look at the situation most non-technical users use Linux to protect their PC, laptop from virus, malware and torjan. There are of course other Linux distribution users in Nepal. Ubuntu user consume the internet bandwidth in several ways. Since Ubuntu is open source project everyone is getting the same stuff. Therefore people will update it rather than turning off the update like in Microsoft windows. Ubuntu releases every new version in a period of 6 month. Those who want to try something new always prefer to install new version. Thus, the download of the file, update of the file from repositories cause consumption of Bandwidth.
You can find all the Ubuntu distro including the latest version 12.04 in ubuntu.ntc.net.np. Unfortunately NTC doesn’t provide support to the latest alpha and beta releases. It is another great step implemented by NTC to save bandwidth. For the people like me who want to try the latest alpha and beta release and want to play with bugs and errors, this is no choice to get download from official Ubuntu website. Hopefully NTC provide support to this issue in near future.
